Forest Fragmentation A change in the spatial configuration of forest cover such that patches become smaller, more isolated, and more impacted by edges shared with other cover types.
Forest Parcelization The division of an area of forest into more and smaller ownerships, often through subdivision.
Forest Perforation The insertion of small patches of other land cover types into the interior of otherwise intact blocks of forest.
Land Cover The physical and biological elements that cover the land surface at any point in time.
Land Use Land features defined by the intended or expected utilization and cover types that will occur upon a particular parcel.
Migration Migration reflects the movement of population from one location to another. Here migration is defined as movement across a county boundary. Net migration is reported here. Thus, it is the difference between the number of people moving in to a county and the number of people moving out of the county.
Selective Deconcentration Selective deconcentration reflects the movement of population from larger more densely settled places to areas with smaller populations that are not as densely settled. It is exemplified in the movement of population from large urban cores to suburban areas and to areas beyond the urban fringe. The term selective reflects the fact that such deconcentration is occurring in some areas, but not in others.
